About Us

The Illinois Wind Energy Association (formerly known as Wind for Illinois) is a non-profit organization working to increase the use of clean, emissions-free wind energy in Illinois.

Wind energy is good for our state and IWEA seeks to build broad support for wind in our communities and with our political leaders. Since forming in 2007, IWEA has been the voice of wind power in Illinois, providing important data and expert analysis to state and local government, the media and the public.

The Illinois Wind Energy Association is the only organization solely dedicated to expanding wind power in this state. See our Membership page for more information on getting involved in Wind for Illinois.

About Wind Power in Illinois

Illinois is currently seeing a massive expansion in wind energy development. The state is now home to over 1000 megawatts of wind generation capacity - enough to power more than 300,000 homes with clean, emissions-free electricity.

Going forward, Illinois will be an increasingly important market for wind energy. With millions of acres of farm land, strong winds, well-developed electricity transmission infrastructure and a state law mandating massive renewable energy growth, Illinois will continue to see strong wind energy development in the coming decades. Wind energy can help America break away from fossil fuels, create well-paying jobs in manufacturing and construction, and boost economies throughout Illinois. Emissions-free wind power also generates no pollution, helps address climate change and lessens dependence on energy from hostile regions.
