About Us

The Illinois Wind Energy Association (formerly known as Wind for Illinois) is a non-profit organization working to increase the use of clean, emissions-free wind energy in Illinois.

Wind energy is good for our state and IWEA seeks to build broad support for wind in our communities and with our political leaders. Since forming in 2007, IWEA has been the voice of wind power in Illinois, providing important data and expert analysis to state and local government, the media and the public.

The Illinois Wind Energy Association is the only organization solely dedicated to expanding wind power in this state. See our Membership page for more information on getting involved in Wind for Illinois.

New name reflects group's role as the voice of the wind industry in the state

CHICAGO -- The Board of Directors of Wind for Illinois announced today the organization has officially changed its name to the Illinois Wind Energy Association, a move that more clearly communicates the organization's role as the top advocate for wind energy in the state.

The newly renamed Illinois Wind Energy Association (IWEA) will continue its core mission of legislative and regulatory advocacy, while expanding its role as a business network for the industry in Chicago and throughout Illinois.

"We're very happy to announce this change," said IWEA Executive Director Kevin Borgia, "this new name better-reflects our mission to improve the business environment for wind in this important state. We look forward to working with firms across the wind industry, policymakers and the citizens of Illinois to increase wind generation in the Land of Lincoln."

In the two years since its founding, IWEA has grown into an instrumental part of the wind industry in Illinois, helping to guide state political leaders toward beneficial energy policy.

IWEA members are many of the leading firms in the wind industry, including Invenergy LLC, Iberdrola Renewables, Gamesa Energy, Midwest Wind Energy, Oak Creek Energy Systems, Burns & McDonnell, the Farnsworth Group and many others.
